What happens when you take a consumer device apart and try to make it run
Nerves? Isaiah will share the journey of repurposing off-the-shelf hardware,
from finding UART and understanding the boot process to building a custom Nerves
system. Along the way, he will look at what makes existing hardware fun to work
with, where things get difficult, and why you don’t always need to design a new
board to build something new.

Isaiah DeRose-Wilson is a technology executive and product builder focused on
smart buildings, connected hardware, embedded systems, and AI. He currently
leads hardware strategy at 1VALET. Previously, he co-founded SmartRent and
served as CTO, helping grow the company from startup through IPO.
