Armex: Building a Disc-Ripping Appliance with Elixir and Nerves

Speaker: Harald Ringvold
Nerves Disc Ripping Hardware

What does it take to get through a pile of CDs, DVDs and Blu-rays by doing nothing but feeding discs into a box? Armex is an automatic disc ripper written in Elixir: insert a disc and it gets detected, identified, ripped, tagged, and moved to your NAS, with a LiveView dashboard showing progress in real time.

In this talk we look at the parts a system like this consists of, from detecting and identifying discs to driving external tools, tracking jobs, storage and organisation, and how Armex approaches each of them on the way to a Nerves appliance.

Speaker

Harald Ringvold is an independent Elixir developer and the founder of Ringvold Solutions (ringvold.dev), based in Haugesund, Norway. He has a weakness for projects that end up as hardware: a homelab that keeps growing, a 3D printer that keeps running, and now a disc ripper that wants to become an appliance.
